Before using your wooden board for the first time, wipe it thoroughly with a damp cloth. Some woods (e.g., oak) raise their fibers again after the first wipe and appear "bristly." To smooth the texture, you can use a scraper or the fine sanding cloth included in the set. This will remove any unevenness and ensure a smooth surface. Then apply a thin layer of poppy seed oil to the surface of the wooden board using a soft cloth. The oil penetrates the wood, nourishing it from within and protecting it from moisture. Leave the oil to soak into the wood for a few hours or overnight so that it is well absorbed. Once the oil has been absorbed, take a clean cloth and remove any excess oil from the surface of the board. This helps to prevent a sticky surface.
