Earth‘s sadness

The novel The Sorrow of the Earth is a serious attempt by Eric Voillard to paint a picture of the sad land that makes the reader dive into the midst of the conflicts that ravaged the land of the Native Americans. Eric, who used the methods of both an artist and a historian in his novel, reminds us of what happened to the Native Americans, the original inhabitants of America, and sheds light on the actions of the American cowboys, who not only killed the Native Americans once, but also enslaved them to the greatest extent, and took pleasure in oppressing and humiliating them, and then killed them many times during the presentation of those theatrical "Wild West Shows" that toured all parts of America. Because historical events in their entirety can be narrated, the narrative of the novel The Sorrow of the Earth, which has become a sad land, reminds the reader of the widespread human rights violations to which the Native Americans, the indigenous people of America, were subjected, which ended with their complete extermination and the forcible displacement of those who survived among them. Eric Foillard absorbed these historical events of a tragic nature and rewrote his historical narrative text within a space that expands to include historical memory.
